How to make a presentation using claude

Learn Claude’s presentation workflow, from the Slides artifact template and direct file creation to keyboard controls, exporting, troubleshooting, and verification.

The Claude presentation workflow is built around two main methods: the Slides artifact template, which opens a live workspace, or creating a directly downloadable presentation file (.pptx) using Python-based code execution and file creation. Structuring your text, establishing a slide hierarchy, and editing through the interface produce more predictable and controllable results than general AI chats.

Prerequisites and Verifying Interface Settings

To create presentations in Claude, you need to verify that your account settings support these features. According to the official help documentation, Artifacts and file creation are available on the Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, and Enterprise plans. On individual plans (Free, Pro, Max, Ultra), go to Settings > Capabilities and make sure that file creation and code execution (Create and edit files in the updated interface) are enabled. If this capability is disabled, Claude cannot run either slide artifacts or downloadable files.

For organization accounts (Team and Enterprise), these permissions are managed through Organization settings > Capabilities. On Team plans, code execution and file creation are enabled by default, while external network access is limited to package managers. On Enterprise plans, the feature is enabled by default for new organizations; however, network egress (Allow network egress) is disabled by default, and administrators determine the domain allowlist. The file-size limit for uploads and downloads is 30 MB per file. Detailed instructions are available in the Create and edit files with Claude documentation.

Choosing a Presentation Format: Slides Artifact or Direct PPTX?

Before starting the workflow, you need to decide how you want to work. The two approaches offer different advantages:

The first option is the interactive Slides artifact template, which opens beside the chat in the Claude interface. With this method, you can view slides directly on the canvas, edit text boxes immediately, move between elements using keyboard shortcuts, and switch to presentation mode without leaving Claude. As the documentation notes, work created with the Slides template can be downloaded as PowerPoint or PDF, or exported as a directly editable Google Slides file (support.claude.com).

The second option is to ask Claude to compile a PowerPoint (.pptx) file directly using its code execution capability. Claude creates the presentation in its isolated environment and provides a downloadable file link in the chat. If you would rather work in an external design program, you can enrich your workflow with the steps in how to make a presentation in Figma or read our guide to evaluating the Gamma presentation tool for other AI-based alternatives.

Step-by-Step Workflow: From Outline to Slides

To create a successful, balanced slide deck, break the process into stages rather than relying on a single general prompt:

First, prepare your source content. The material you give Claude could be rough notes, a meeting summary, a technical report, or project bullet points. If you upload a file, make sure it does not exceed the 30 MB limit.

In the second step, instead of asking Claude to draw the slides right away, ask it to produce an outline of the slide sequence. Require each slide to have one main idea, a clear heading, and no more than 3-4 supporting points. Approve the slide structure and order at this stage.

In the third step, instruct Claude to turn the approved outline into a Slides artifact using the template. You can select the Slides template from the output options in the chat box or specify in your message that it should create a slide artifact. Alternatively, if you want a directly downloadable file, explicitly ask in your prompt for a PowerPoint presentation (.pptx).

Example Scenario: Product Launch Slide Deck

Let’s walk through a hypothetical business scenario to make the workflow concrete. The data below is entirely illustrative.

Scenario: We are preparing a 4-slide summary presentation for executives about “BulutRapor,” a B2B SaaS solution. Our hypothetical notes are: “Annual savings rate: 24%, setup time: 3 days, target audience: finance directors, current problem: manual data transfers between departments and risk of errors.”

Example prompt for Claude:

“Based on the notes I provided, create a 4-slide Slides artifact for finance executives. Slide 1: Title and current operational problem, Slide 2: BulutRapor’s approach to the solution, Slide 3: Hypothetical metrics (24% annual savings, setup in 3 days), Slide 4: Call to action and next steps. Include no more than 3 short bullet points per slide and avoid long paragraphs.”

After Claude creates the slides in the side panel, you can revise the metrics and wording by clicking directly on a slide or by chatting with Claude.

Editing Directly on the Canvas and Keyboard Interaction

The Slides artifact template lets you edit through the interface using either a mouse or full keyboard accessibility. When working with a keyboard, move between interface areas using F6 or Shift+F6 (Ctrl+F6 on Windows, Cmd+F6 on Mac). The editor is divided into sections: the top toolbar, current slide, floating formatting bar, thumbnail list, and properties panel.

To navigate a slide, press Tab to reach it, then press Return to enter it. You can move between objects on the slide with Tab or Shift+Tab. To edit a text box, press Return; the cursor will be placed at the end of the text. After making changes, press Escape or Tab to finish editing, then press Escape again to leave the slide. In the thumbnail list, use the left and right arrow keys to move between slides. Note that pressing Delete or Backspace while in this area immediately deletes the selected slide; a deleted slide can be restored with Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z.

Exporting, Presenting, and Integrations

When your work is complete, you can present directly from the Slides artifact or export it in different formats:

To present directly, press Tab to reach the Present option in the toolbar, then press Return to start the presentation. During the presentation, use the Right Arrow or Space key to advance to the next slide, the Left Arrow key to return to the previous slide, and Escape to end the presentation.

To export, click the Export button in the interface to download the presentation in PowerPoint (.pptx) or PDF format. As explained in the documentation, slide decks can also be exported directly as editable Google Slides files. If your company has specific color palettes and fonts, the Artifacts system can work with design system components and inherit colors and fonts that reflect your corporate identity.

Common Errors and How to Resolve Them

Here are some technical issues you may encounter when creating presentations with Claude, along with steps to address them:

Artifact loading errors: If a technical issue occurs while a slide artifact is being created, you can click the “Try fixing with Claude” button beside the error message. This action pastes the error details directly into a new message and lets Claude diagnose the problem and attempt a fix.

Unable to generate a file download link: If Claude cannot create a .pptx file directly, check whether Code execution and file creation is disabled in your account settings. Also make sure that the size of any uploaded or generated file does not exceed the 30 MB limit.

Slide text is too long: The model may sometimes put too much text on slides. In that case, you can give Claude targeted revision prompts in the chat, such as “Reduce the bullet points on slide 3 to one sentence each,” or manually shorten the text by clicking directly on the text box on the slide.

Hallucinations and numerical discrepancies: AI models may add statistics that are not in the source text when preparing presentations. Therefore, never treat model output as verified fact; compare all percentages, dates, and claims directly with your primary documents.

Verification and Export Checklist

Complete these checks before sharing your presentation:

Permissions and settings check: Have you confirmed that file creation and code execution are enabled under Settings > Capabilities?

One message per slide: Does each slide have one clear, focused main idea?

Data verification: Do all percentages, durations, and metrics generated by the model exactly match your source notes?

Keyboard and interface test: Have you entered Present mode and tried navigating between slides (Right/Left Arrow keys) and checked the layout?

Export check: Have you exported the presentation as PowerPoint, PDF, or Google Slides and reviewed text-box alignment and readability?

Which plans support the Claude Slides template?

According to Anthropic’s documentation, the Slides, Docs, and Design templates are available on all Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, and Enterprise plans. These templates are enabled by default on individual and Team plans. The documentation lists October 15, 2026, as the default activation date for Enterprise. Verify actual availability for your organization in the relevant settings or with your administrator.

Can slides created with Claude be exported directly to Google Slides?

Yes. An artifact created with the Slides template can be exported through the Export option in the interface as a directly editable Google Slides file, as well as in PowerPoint and PDF formats.
